Team-mate Kenny Cooper is not far behind with four, while Seattle Sounders' David Estrada has also bagged a quartet of goals after netting a treble in their opener and adding one more against Houston Dynamo.

Meanwhile, San Jose Earthquakes are the early surprise packages of the season as they sit among the leaders in the Western Conference largely thanks to the inspired form of Chris Wondolowski, who has hit four himself – two of which have been game winners.
