Sporting Kansas City stretched their 100 per cent start to the season to six games as they beat Real Salt Lake 1-0 in the battle between the leading sides in Major League Soccer. Aurelien Collin scored the only goal after 63 minutes to help Sporting extend their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference to eight points ahead of the New York Red Bulls.
Real stayed top of the Western Conference, two points ahead of the San Jose Earthquakes, who drew 2-2 at New York, with all the goals scored in the first half. Twice the Red Bulls led, through Kenny Cooper and Dax McCarty, but Rafael Baca and Chris Wondolowski got the equalisers for the Earthquakes.
David Beckham was on target as the Los Angeles Galaxy lifted themselves off the bottom of the West with their second win of the season, 3-1 over the Portland Timbers. The Timbers took the lead through Kris Boyd, but Landon Donovan levelled just before half-time before Juninho and Beckham turned the game in the Galaxy's favour late on.
DC United came from a goal down to win 2-1 at the New England Revolution. Maicon and Chris Pontius scored for DC, cancelling out Jose Moreno's opener for the Revolution.
FC Dallas beat the Montreal Impact in similar fashion, Blas Perez and Brek Shea securing a 2-1 win after Bernardo Corradi had opened the scoring from the penalty spot for the Impact.
Gabriel Gomez scored the only goal from the spot as the Philadelphia Union beat the Columbus Crew 1-0, while the Seattle Sounders saw off the Colorado Rapids by the same scoreline thanks to Zach Scott's strike and Oswaldo Minda's effort gave Chivas USA a 1-0 win at Toronto FC.
