Rummenigge: Robben will stay

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that he is confident that Dutch star Arjen Robben will extend his contract with the club beyond June 2013.

"Arjen will stay at Bayern for a long time," Rummenigge said in an interview with Sport Bild, adding that "no star will leave us" in the off-season. Rummenigge's stance was shared by the club's ex-president Franz Beckenbauer, who was quoted by Bild as saying: "Bayern needs Robben".

The duo's statements follow Bild's announcement that Robben and his agent had put off extending his contract until 2015, unhappy at the way that the club had dealt with a dressing room bust-up that saw the player struck by team-mate Franck Ribery.

Ribery was reportedly fined 50,000 euros ($66,000) after lashing out at Robben after an argument over a first-half free-kick in last month's 2-1 UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg win over Real Madrid.

An individual that can go against the game of play and create a goal from nothing! Scores a hell of a lot for a winger, He is exciting, unique, sexy, yes arrogant and a showman (always pouting ;) but he is one of the greatest and underrated team players out there! On the pitch disagreeing with team-mates for the good of the team can and should happen! Who wants some quiet guy agreeing with everything! You need a leader. You need some arrogance/confidence who can shoot or assist at a split second and do it so well! I like Robben

I don't get it. When Robben hit Müller, everyone was a bit upset but they made up. As soon as Ribery lays a finger on Robben he wants to leave? Really? But of a hypocrisy.

Darn, I was hoping he would leave after the incident. With his recent good performance, perhaps other teams would have forget he is the crystal player with a bad attitude: selfish, bad temper, agressive, complete lack of team support on and off the pitch (we all remember his remarks on Lahm). We don't need him, we need a good winger that can fit with the squad, who doesn't injured himself half a season almost every year.
