Robben: Booing was bizarre

The boos which overshadowed what was meant to be a friendly match between the Netherlands and Bayern Munich were "bizarre", according to their target, Arjen Robben.

Robben was made the scapegoat by some Bayern fans for their UEFA Champions League defeat to Chelsea and he was booed every time he touched the ball at the Allianz Arena last week. He left the stadium without comment, but after receiving the opposite kind of treatment in the Netherlands' friendly against Bulgaria at the weekend he says he is now only looking forwards.

"I have never had a week like it," he said. "To be booed by your own fans is bizarre and that is not easy. But that is football. Sometimes you are the villain, sometimes you are the hero. I am a strong person and can deal with it."

Robben's every touch was met by extra cheers and applause in Amsterdam in the weekend's 2-1 defeat to Bulgaria and he hopes to hear similar reactions in Poland and Ukraine. "I want to thank the fans for such a warm welcome," he said.

"It gives you such a good feeling to be welcomed like this by your own fans. What is gone is gone. Now I am with Holland and the focus is on the European Championships."

In his own words, the penalty was terrible, that's why he got boo'ed.

Tough discussion about Robben.I have to agree and disagree with most of you.He is deff a player with a lot of ego,but that is Robben, C. Ronaldo wouldn't be himself if he didn't have his ego and both of these players are (winning factors) great or fail for club and country, many of the dutch people responding negatively to Robben is due to us being able to have been World Champions 2010 if Robben passed the ball instead of trying it himself so many time. It's time to forgive and forget and wish him and Oranje best luck!
